Yes, you read that right. The online retail giant announced that it’s going to deliver live 7-foot trees to people’s doorsteps starting this year.
It may be too early to be talking about Douglas firs and Norfolk Island pines, which are the kind of trees to expect from Amazon, but it might give you a head start in planning for the holidays.
Customers can pre-order and choose a delivery date for their tree of choice and then the company will box and ship it 10 days after being cut down.
All trees, wreaths and garlands on Amazon’s marketplace will be offered at a discount in November, and some of which will be eligible for Prime delivery.
Amazon veers from Christmas tradition
Cutting down and bringing home a fresh tree is one of the most exciting family Christmas traditions.
Despite the availability of pre-lit trees with lifelike needles — as well as fresh ones — on the Internet, many people would still prefer to drive to a tree farm and pick a live spruce, pine, or fir for their home.
According to the National Christmas Tree Association, out of the 27 million real trees sold last year, only 1% or 2% were bought online.
However, Amazon has proven countless times that it’s capable of changing the way people shop ― even for Christmas trees.
“We see their entry into the market as offering consumers another option to purchase a real tree to make their Christmas special, better for the environment and support local Christmas tree growers.” – Tim O’ Connor, Executive Director at the National Christmas Tree Association
