eBay Delays Some 2020 Spring Seller Policy Changes

eBay released an update to sellers that it was delaying some requirements from the Spring Seller Update that were supposed to go into effect on June 1 until July 20.

Don’t Miss

Why the company waited until now to make this announcement when the original effective dates were almost 4 weeks ago is a bit of mystery and eBay provided no explanation.

Changes To Handling “Item Not As Described” Return Requests For All Sellers

In the 2020 Spring Seller Update, eBay announced that starting June 1, 2020 sellers would be required to respond within 3 business days when buyers request to return items that don’t match listing descriptions through its Money-Back Guarantee.

If a seller wouldn’t respond within that time period, eBay was going to refund the buyer and seek reimbursement from the seller without requiring the buyer to ship the item back.

The launch date for the response requirement on returns that don’t match listing descriptions has been rescheduled to July 20, 2020.

eBay-Integrated Shipping Carrier Requirement

In addition, eBay announced that starting June 1, 2020 sellers would be required to use eBay-integrated shipping carriers that provide regular shipment scans in order to protect sellers from “Item not received” claims filed through its Money-Back Guarantee.

The launch date for the new integrated shipping carrier requirement has been rescheduled.

Starting July 20, 2020, sellers will be required to use eBay-integrated shipping carriers that offer tracked services when sending orders to receive protection from “Item not received” claims filed through its Money-Back Guarantee.

eBay Tracking Upload Requirement

Lastly, eBay also announced that starting June 1, 2020, it may decide a case in a buyer’s favor without requiring the buyer to contact eBay if tracking with scans that prove shipment of the item was not provided by the seller within 3 business days after an “Item not received” case was opened.

The launch date for the new valid tracking requirement has been rescheduled for July 20, 2020.

However, if sellers are not currently uploading any tracking information within 3 business days after an “Item not received” case is opened, eBay may already decide the case in the buyer’s favor.

This is a curious delay announcement as the company says it is not effective yet, but then also said it might apply the rule anyway.
