San Jose Clean Energy is an electricity generation service provider, operated by the City of San Jose’s Community Energy Department.
Part of the City’s Community Choice Energy program, SJCE plays a crucial role in advancing Climate Smart San Jose, the city’s climate action plan.
SJCE buys electricity from cleaner energy sources and works with San Jose’s local utility provider, PG&E, to deliver the lower carbon or carbon-free power to homes and businesses, like eBay.
“Operating in an environmentally and socially sustainable way is paramount to eBay’s operations and commitment to responsible business. The City of San Jose has been eBay’s home for nearly 25 years, and we are thrilled to partner with San Jose Clean Energy to achieve 100% renewable energy for our offices here.”
Wendy Jones, SVP, Global Operations, eBay
eBay San Jose is Fifth Location to Move to Renewable Energy
The San Jose campuses are eBay’s fifth location to move entirely to renewable energy sourcing, joining Draper, Utah; Dreilinden, Germany; Dublin, Ireland; and Portland, Oregon.
eBay says that this marks another major milestone toward achieving their goal to source 100% renewable electricity at eBay-controlled data centers and offices by 2025 and honoring their commitment as a member of RE100.
In addition to being members of RE100, which is a corporate leadership initiative led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP, eBay is also a member of the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA).
REBA is a standalone membership organization to support non-utility, nonresidential renewable procurement, and a longtime member of the Future of Internet Power, an initiative that brings together companies to address challenges and collaborate on solutions that will enhance the ability to procure renewable energy to power data centers.
Also, this year eBay was named to the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability World and North America Indices and celebrate DJSI’s 20th-anniversary providing sustainability and ESG performance to investors.
