Instagram and WhatsApp to receive ‘from Facebook’ branding
In a move that appears to be controversial even within the company, Facebook is maybe rebranding Instagram and WhatsApp to add the “from Facebook” tagline.

The report came initially from The Information and references “people familiar with the matter.”
If the company follows through with this idea, both services will become known as Instagram from Facebook and WhatsApp from Facebook.
However, a story by business news service Bloomberg seems to confirm the report by The Information.
Bloomberg reports the rebranding will appear in the apps’ log-in screens and both Apple IOS and Google Play stores.
The business news outlet also quotes a Facebook spokesperson saying, “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.”
Adding Facebook branding not a new idea
Facebook already has similar branding for its Oculus brand and Workplace brands, except Workplace is known as “Workplace by Facebook.”
The company also uses the “from Facebook” tag line on various developer services it offers.
However, what value Facebook envisions by adding “from Facebook” to Instagram and WhatsApp is a little unclear, especially considering the negative press the company has received over the last few years.
There is no date from Facebook on when this rebranding may occur and if the final decision has been made.
