Halloween: The Hidden eCommerce Shopping Holiday

SHARE

October is now upon us which means in just a few short weeks Black Friday frenzy will be fast approaching.  However much sooner than that is a great sales opportunity which is often overlooked.

We are of course talking about Halloween!

Now before you start saying that that’s all well and good but you don’t sell costumes.  Hold your horses!

Let’s take a look at some numbers surrounding Halloween.

Halloween by Numbers

Halloween is that secret eCommerce holiday that a lot of sellers ignore every year, when in actual fact it is a huge selling opportunity that truly kickstarts Q4 and the precursor to the Black Friday frenzy.

In 2017 Halloween led to a total spending of $9.1 Billion which is an incredible amount of money.

Now whilst $3.4 Billion is spent on attire that means more than half of total spending is spent on other items.  Things like candy and home decorations are also going to be huge sellers but don’t worry if your products do not fall into these categories.

Marketing Tactics

The reality is that as we get closer to Christmas more and more buyers are starting to get into buying mode.

marketing analysisHalloween is the first major event of the season which gives buyers the opportunity and excuse to buy products which are usually at a lower price point than the likes of Black Friday or Christmas.

This creates the perfect combination for eCommerce sellers to market their products and encourage their audience to get involved in sales and promotions that you have running.

There are a number of marketing strategies that you can implement over the next 3/4 weeks including:

  1. Theming the website
  2. Customised banners
  3. Email marketing strategy
  4. Social Media content
  5. Sales & Promotions

Our advice would be to implement a marketing strategy over the next 3 weeks and really make the most of the increased traffic online and kickstart your Q4 sales period in the best way possible.
