Shopping Apps Among Most Deleted On Smartphones

SHARE

Smartphones and tablets have made eCommerce and online shopping more convenient. While it is easy now to shop using smartphones, there are just as many apps competing for attention.

Such is the case for shopping apps. In a recent study made by Alligatortek, a number of people delete apps they no longer use.

Around 43 percent of people delete unused apps that they have paid for. 63 percent say that they do still keep the apps they don’t use. For app makers, this might be an issue. This could be cause for concern for retailers as well.

People download apps to try them out. Most often, those apps might be used only a few times before they’re forgotten. Some apps are only used when needed. While smartphones have made online shopping much easier, people still do not use apps to shop as often.

Mobile Website vs Shopping Apps

Another factor that could be considered is that many apps aren’t engaging to people. Apps should encourage people to use them often.

However, a number of apps simply don’t make people spend more time on them. What happens is that many apps are deleted to free up space. People delete apps to free space, which has been the number one reason why they’re not being kept.

An app that doesn’t hold the interest of people for so long will likely get deleted. Apps that would hold interest far longer hold more engagement, and the app has more features that would make people use it more.

Apps that are slow or take too long to download would also most likely get deleted.

In order for retailer apps to stay longer, there must be features that would make users use them much longer. An app that has much appeal as well as function won’t get deleted. This is true for shopping apps as well as all other types of apps out there.

The reality is that for most retailers pursuing the route of a mobile optimised website should be a priority over developing an app.

You can replicate the app experience in a browser without the need for your potential customer to download and hold on to your app on their phone.
