Black Bear Porch Pirate Steals Amazon Package

With the holiday season fast approaching we can expect the usual spate of opportunistic porch pirates soon making their way into the headlines again. However, one woman in Connecticut was shocked to see a porch pirate in action on her surveillance camera, but even more shocked to see it was a black bear.

Kristin Levine was first alerted to her Amazon package being delivered through her surveillance camera app. However, just 5 minutes later she received another notification only to witness the same package now being taken by a black bear.

Kristin wrote with her video on Facebook “This guy just took my package! You think @amazon gives replacements for bear thieves?!?”

It turns out the package just contained toilet paper and was recovered further down the road on a neighbor’s lawn. Kristin added “It was hysterical, like I said, I knew nothing in there was going to be irreplaceable, so it was a fun afternoon for sure,”

As you can see in the video the bear does have a tag in its ear which means it is known to the local wildlife officials, who commented that residential encounters like these were becoming more and more common due to rising bear populations in the area.

Will Amazon release a bear theft policy to deal with this, will Mark Rober release a new porch pirate video for 2021 featuring a bear trap? I guess we will find out in due course.
