eBay Authenticate Now Available For Business Sellers
In October eBay launched eBay Authenticate, a service for sellers to send select luxury handbags and brands to eBay for authentication and sale.
This service is designed to ensure buyers receive authentic goods and reduce the number of instances of fake goods being sold on the platform.
Effective now, business sellers can also take advantage of the same service. Initially, only accounts registered as individuals were eligible for this listing service.
The deal is the same, typically eBay will charge a 20% commission on the sale of the product, but they will pay for all shipping costs and even create the listing for you.
The buyer is offered a full authenticity guarantee.
As with the service announced in October, eligible brands include:
- Louis Vuitton
- Hermès
- Chanel
- Gucci
- Céline
- Fendi
- Christian Dior
- Prada
- Goyard
- Balenciaga
- Valentino
- Burberry (aka “Eligible Brands”)
The company restated its commitment to offer more brands and categories in the future.
And for a limited time, the minimum value threshold is $250 instead of $500 for products and eBay is also offering a promotion that only charges a 10% selling fee until January 2018.

Luxury Goods Important to Marketplaces
As we mentioned in previous articles, luxury goods are finding a new home online. Companies often shied away from online sales or looked upon second-hand sales such as on eBay as havens for counterfeit products.
While the companies themselves will not benefit from second-hand sales on eBay, if there is a vibrant second-hand market, it may spur sales of new designs as people may see the second-hand market as a way to “trade-up” to new models.
