eBay Upgrades Their Image Search Tool
Last year we praised heavily eBay’s innovation with their image search tool and Richard did a comprehensive hands on test of their image search to see how it did.
Needless to say the results were pretty impressive.
eBay has now taken Image Search a step further and made it easier to use and also much more user friendly, they have done this by adding a drag-and-drop functionality.
Native Drag & Drop eBay Image Search
With the upgraded feature, customers can simply drag and drop an image into the search bar instead of using a picture which they took with their smartphone camera.
“When we introduced Image Search last year, we used computer vision to make it easier to find like items from the world around you in our global marketplace. Now, you can explore our marketplace further with just a swipe of your finger. As we continue to make the entire internet shoppable using computer vision, we’re evolving the search experience on eBay to help you more easily find what you want,” eBay, Product Manager.
The new visual shopping feature is powered by artificial intelligence and uses deep learning networks, or convolutional neural networks, to process images.
In a video on their official press release, eBay demonstrates the much improved Image Search tool by typing “cross body bag” into the search bar. You can see their video here.
From the list of search results, a user can drag the image that catches their attention and drop it into the search bar to find more products that are similar to it.
The new Image Search tool will be available on Android and iOS this coming August in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia.
