Challenges Facing Artificial Intelligence
For all the good things that artificial intelligence has, it is still far from perfect. There are still challenges facing it and these needs to be addressed before it is ready for the masses.
If or should we say when these issues are resolved, artificial intelligence will be much closer to how human intelligence actually works.
Can AI get closer to Human Intelligence?
One aspect of human intelligence that artificial intelligence still can’t fully grasp is pattern recognition.
Though this has become highly advanced in AI, and in some cases even outperforms humans, there are also aspects of pattern recognition where artificial intelligence fails.
Recognizing sequences and objects are still not as good as that of humans.
Artificial intelligence still can’t recognize the same object from different angles, something that is necessary in identifying an object.
Even in sound, AI still has so much to cover. Humans can distinguish musical patterns and its variances, while artificial intelligence right now, has not mastered this. For example changes in pitch, tone and tempo still can confuse Artificial Intelligence.
Language parsing is another hurdle that AI has to overcome. Humans have a variety of nuances to language, and the subtlety to words and how they are used is something that artificial intelligence cannot yet comprehend.
AI might be able to understand words and sentences, but then differentiating on how one word can have a different meaning when used in another way is not yet known to AI.
Many of these issues are rooted more on how humans learn, and that is by experience as well as interaction with other people. This is an aspect that AI might not fully be prepared for yet.
While AI can learn through machine learning, nuances in human behavior and speech is something that is learned over time, through different interactions. That is why AI still has a long way when it comes to this aspect of humanity.
This could be where machine learning and AI when combined could lead to some huge advances in artificial intelligence.
Given these issues with AI, do you think that more advanced forms of it would one day be able to overcome them? Post your comments about it below.
