The video shows the UPS delivery driver placing the package on the doorstep before falling into a sitting position and then laying down, visibly looking disoriented and unsteady. He then returns to his feet, rings the doorbell, and slowly stumbles back to his truck.
Delivery Drivers Suffering in Extreme Heat
The resident of the property Brian Enriquez was at work at the time and didn’t see his doorbell notification until after the driver had already left.
“I was concerned for the fact that he was coming, stumbling to the door. Had I gotten to my phone sooner, I could have talked to him through my Ring, but he had already left the property at that point.”
Brian Enriquez, Homeowner, Scottsdale Arizona
On the day of the incident, Scottsdale’s temperature hit 110 degrees Fahrenheit, which led Brian to contact the no emergency police phone number as well as his local UPS office to let them know it appeared one of their drivers was struggling in the conditions.
UPS did respond, thanking Brian for his concern and confirming that their driver was fine, and added in a statement “UPS drivers are trained to work outdoors and for the effects of hot weather. Our employee used his training to be aware of his situation and contact his manager for assistance, who immediately provided assistance.”
This is not the first time in recent weeks that the heat has been a cause for concern for delivery drivers. Just a few weeks ago a TikTok video went viral of a FedEx driver helping an Amazon driver buy a drink due to the excessive heat in LA.
